Creekside Staff

Dean Wood, Pastor

Where were you born?
Baptist Hospital in the beautiful city of Knoxville, TN

Tell us about your family.
I met Kelly at Columbia Bible College in 1991 and married her a couple of years later. We have two daughters, Karis and Darby, and a son, Karsten.

How long have you been at Creekside Bible Church?
My first Sunday was Easter of 2010

What do you love most about your ministry?
God's word and God's people. I love that God has given us the Bible, the most precious, amazing book in the universe! I love that I get to preach to and share His word with His people and to see it change my heart and the hearts of others. I love being around people of every size, shape, and color!

Is there a particular Bible verse that has meant a lot to you and why?
"And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit." 2 Corinthians 3:18
I have treasured this verse since Dr. Johnny Miller preached on it in chapel at Columbia Bible College about 25 years ago. The Spirit transforms my life as I look to Jesus. Or, as Dr. Miller put it, "beholding leads to becoming." This verse really simplifies what sanctification is all about. Whatever disciplines of grace are present in my life, they should all have the goal of setting my eyes on the glory of Jesus Christ. It is in the beholding of Christ that I become more like Christ.

Finish this sentence: I love Texas because...
Like they say, "It's a whole other country!" I love that my family loves Texas. I love the incredible diversity of people in the area where we live. I love the food. I love Darby Hill Farm. I love so much of the music that has come out of Texas. (But I would also add that there are many days when, in the words of Brad Paisley, "I miss my Tennessee home." I miss the seasons and the mountains and the people there.)

If you had to request a last meal, what would it be?
How about a last breakfast and dinner? For breakfast, I would have my mom's biscuits and gravy. For dinner, I would have a big, juicy steak, medium rare with some fresh, sautéed mushrooms, a baked potato all the way, some of Kelly's perfectly fried squash, a  slice of cheesecake - any kind with chocolate/dark chocolate/caramel/pecans and whipped cream, and a bowl of my mom's banana pudding. (Hey, it's my last meal; don't judge me for two desserts!)

What is your quest and what is your favorite color?
I would love to hike the Appalachian Trail with my son. Since the likelihood of that happening is slim, my quest is to make it to the top of a 5.11 wall at Inspire Rock with Karsten belaying me. My favorite color is red. Orange is a close second.

Kelly Wood, Children's Ministry Director

Where were you born?
Pasadena, TX . I grew up in Cypress, TX.

Tell us about your family.
I was adopted when I was 2 months old and was blessed to be raised as an only child by parents who love and follow Jesus wholeheartedly. I spent the first 18 years of my life in Cypress, TX. In 1991, I began attending Columbia  International University in SC and graduated with a double major in Bible and Elementary Education. In his perfect timing, God brought Dean into my life at CIU, and we were married in July of 1993. God has not only given me a wonderful friend and companion in Dean, but also a godly man who He has used to gently mold and shape me more into His image. After teaching in the public school system for 4 years, I became a stay-at-home mom to our 3 children: Karis (18), Karsten (15), and Darby (14). Our children have done school at home and through various homeschool support classes in the Conroe and Spring area.  After 18 years, serving in churches in North Carolina, Virginia, and Alabama, Dean was called to Creekside, and I came home to Texas. I have served with children in the church since I was in high school. It has been a great joy getting to be a part of children's ministry/youth ministry in several churches the last 25+ years. "I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth." 3 John 1:4

How long have you been at Creekside Bible?
My first Sunday was Easter of 2010.

What do you love most about your ministry?
The kids! Where else would I be welcomed at the coloring table or to help create animals out of Duplos?! I have spent the last 30+ years of my life serving and teaching children. I love that I get to be a part of leading kids to know and love Jesus. My prayer is always that each child loves Jesus more when they leave the building each Sunday than they did when they came in. I also love my team of volunteers. They are a truly amazing group of Jesus-following, kid-loving friends in ministry. One of the things I treasure about my ministry is the opportunity to pray for each child, volunteer, and their families.

Is there a particular Bible verse that has meant a lot to you and why?
Jeremiah  29:11 When I share my God story with people, I always use this verse as the foundation. While there have been times I've pushed back against God's plan, He has always been faithful to direct my path in such a way that I eventually get to His best for me.

Finish this sentence: I love Texas because...
What's not to love?  I love the people, the food (Pappasitos or Taste of Texas, anyone?), the big city, the wide open skies and spaces, the rodeo, and country music. Texas is home.

If you had to request a last meal, what would it be?
Chips, salsa, guacamole, tacos, enchiladas, and a large piece of cake with lots of frosting!

What is your quest and what is your favorite color?
To love God and love people. With Sir Galahad, I would have been thrown over the side with the color question. Red, no pink, no black, no yel...

Finish this sentence: I love Texas because...
I love Texas because Texas by far has some of the most BEAUTIFUL sunsets you will see. God painted the skies for sure and we have the best show right in our backyard. We also have bluebonnets, canyons, forests, caverns, beaches and more making the Lone Star State full of God's beauty.

If you had to request a last meal what would it be?
My last meal would be all CARBS! Potato Salad, Mac & Cheese, French Fries, Banana Pudding, Cheesecake, and BREAD!

The greatest blessing in my life is my family. My wife Alicia is an amazing wife, mother, and friend. She serves others with the joy of the Lord which is her strength! My oldest Abigail is at her age one of the most talented people I know. Our oldest boy Kendal is very smart and a good friend to others. Ariah is four years old and truly has a servant's heart. Ella has just turned 3. She is bold and adventurous. Aaron is our youngest son. He is happy all the time! I am so thankful for the blessings of God to entrust me with my family! Having five kids is definitely an adventure!

How long have you been at Creekside Bible?
It feels like a while...lol...4 years in April?

What do you love most about your ministry?
I love being in authentic relationships with people and using our gifts to bring glory to the One True God!

Is there a particular Bible verse that has meant a lot to you and why?
1 John 2:5-6  "But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this, we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked."
This scripture literally changed my life. When I read that our calling as Christians is to walk as Jesus did that changed the way I thought about living. It brought many questions. How did Jesus walk? I believe definitely the first priority is to seek to love the way He does. I also feel this scripture plants an expectation in our hearts that we should have faith to see a fruitful ministry even operating the way that Jesus did, miracles and all.

Finish this sentence: I love Texas because...
I love Texas because I believe it is the greatest representation in our country of what America can be under God.

This one is easy...Spicy Fried Chicken and a glass of Whiskey.

What is your quest and what is your favorite color?
My quest is continually revealing itself. My favorite color is Green.
